What it is

Everyday RN is a full 12-hour shift. Pick Medical-Surgical or Telemetry, and you get 3 patients and a clock that starts at 0700. Open Shift report first, then work your worklist.

Tasks open 30 minutes before they are due: fingerstick glucose, vital signs, med passes with hold parameters (like metoprolol, digoxin, and IV furosemide), lab and chart reviews (a vancomycin trough, an aPTT, a daily weight), post-cath checks, drip titration, rhythm strips, charting your assessments, patient changes, discharge teaching, intake and output, and handoff to the night nurse.

Each patient card shows allergies, code status, and fall risk, and Orders shows the standing orders and hold parameters. On time earns points, late costs points, and urgent changes give you only 15 minutes. Your end-of-shift report lists anything to review, with rationales.

What you'll learn

  • How to organize a full shift around timed tasks
  • When to hold a med using hold parameters
  • How to read labs and levels before a med pass
  • Post-cath checks, drip titration, and rhythm strips on telemetry
  • How to chart assessments and give handoff
  • Time management when a patient suddenly changes

How it helps you

NCLEX tests clinical judgment, using NCSBN's Clinical Judgment Measurement Model. Every NURSYN game is built on the nursing process. Everyday RN works these ADPIE steps: Planning, Implementation, Evaluation.

A · AssessmentD · DiagnosisP · PlanningI · ImplementationE · Evaluation
  • Covers Planning, Implementation, and Evaluation across a whole shift
  • Hold parameter decisions are classic NCLEX safety questions
  • Every task is a small NCJMM loop: read the data, decide, act, check
  • Practicing the flow of a shift makes clinical less overwhelming

How to play

  1. Pick a unit and start the shift
  2. Open Shift report (due at 0700)
  3. Start each task when it is due, read the chart data, and answer
  4. Check Orders for standing orders and hold parameters
  5. Finish with handoff and review your end-of-shift report
