What it is

Dose Builder teaches dosage calculation from the ground up with one method that solves every problem: dimensional analysis. You read a simulated order and the label on hand, then build the setup by tapping fraction tiles into place.

Units cancel right on the screen. If a tile is upside down, you flip it. When only the unit you want is left (tablets, mL, mg, mL/hr, or gtt/min), the setup is right and you do the math: multiply the tops, multiply the bottoms, divide, and round the way the syringe or pump reads.

There are five chapters: the unit ladder (g, mg, mcg, kg, lb, mL), tablets and capsules, liquids and injections, weight-based doses, and IV rates. Each chapter starts with a short lesson and a worked example, and every problem ends with the why and a safety tip.

What you'll learn

  • Metric conversions and why a decimal slip is a 10-fold error
  • How many tablets or mL to give
  • Weight-based dosing in mg per kg
  • IV pump rates in mL/hr and gravity drip rates in gtt/min
  • Rounding rules for tablets, syringes, pumps, and drops
  • Safety checks that catch a wrong answer before it reaches a patient

How it helps you

NCLEX tests clinical judgment, using NCSBN's Clinical Judgment Measurement Model. Every NURSYN game is built on the nursing process. Dose Builder works these ADPIE steps: Implementation.

A · AssessmentD · DiagnosisP · PlanningI · ImplementationE · Evaluation
  • Building the setup tile by tile makes dimensional analysis visual, so it sticks
  • Instant hints explain which unit has not canceled yet and why
  • Every problem ties the math to a nursing safety check, like holding a beta blocker or checking potassium
  • Short, untimed chapters keep it low stress for first semester

How to play

  1. Pick a chapter and read the short lesson
  2. Tap tiles into the bridge and flip them until only your goal unit is left
  3. Tap Check units
  4. Do the math and round the way the device reads
  5. Read the why and the safety tip, then earn up to 3 stars per chapter
